The South African Traditional Music Achievement (SATMA) Awards were incepted in 2005 to promote, preserve, uplift, develop, stage multicultural exchanges, honour and award traditional musicians across racial and ethnic background. From the inaugural SATMA Awards 2006 to the 6th anniversary SATMA Awards 2011 hosted in Kwa-Zulu Natal (Durban ICC), the SATMA Awards have made a tremendous contribution in the cultural landscape of South Africa through nation building, social cohesion and implementing the above mentioned objectives.
The 7th Annual SATMA Awards 2012 which will be hosted in the Eastern Cape Province (East London) 27 October 2012, will continue to showcase, honour and award traditional musicians in partnership with the Eastern Cape Provincial Government, SABC, National Heritage Council of South Africa (NHC), Ilanga newspaper, KSD Local Municipality, OR Tambo District Municipality, Premier Hotels Group and the Buffalo City Metro.
