SATMA AWARDS BACKGROUND

Background

SATMA AWARDS gives traditional music its rightful status and role in South African Arts & Culture in the preservation of our Heritage.  SATMA AWARDS recognises this void, therefore the birth of the South African Traditional Music Awards (SATMA) was recognised whereby Traditional Music has been given an appropriate platform to honour and host a ceremonial event.

Museums provide an ideal learning environment, whether it is formal or informal learning, active hands-on participation or passive observation. Incepted in 2005 to bring all races and ethnic groups together through the celebration of our diverse musical cultures, SATMA AWARDS eliminates tribalism and other divisive measures.

SATMA AWARDS are pitched at a national level, as they speak to all races in our country. The SATMA AWARDS slogan is My Culture, Your Culture, One Nation. The slogan was chosen in line with the vision which seeks to unify all African ethnic, racial groups  and Africans within the Diaspora through Traditional Music.

SATMA  AWARDS were founded by Mr. Dumisani Goba, the CEO of Ingwe Mabalabala Holdings. Amasiko Esizwe Trust (AET) were the founding fundraising overseer of the SATMA  AWARDS from 2005 till 2007. The National Heritage Council (NHC) have been the fundraisers and overseers of the SATMA AWARDS from 2008 to 2010. SATMA AWARDS FOUNDATION are currently the fundraisers and overseers of the SATMA AWARDS.
Ingwe Mabalabala Communications was appointed to facilitate and coordinate the SATMA AWARDS.

The SATMA AWARDS have become a very respectable brand over the years. While much have been achieved, the brand cannot sit on its laurels. The SATMA AWARDS will continue to embark on reaching new heights through linkages with new stakeholders and potential sponsors.
